Lisa Thorne
Principal, Owner
Lisa loves accounting so you don’t have to. An Elite-level Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and a former CPA, Lisa spent 23 years as a public accounting auditor with Ernst & Young and accounting manager for large corporations, including The Gap, Inc., VISA USA and CNET. Her background as an auditor means that Lisa knows what auditors are looking for: immaculate documentation and audit-proof books. As the principal and owner at New Insight Accounting since 2008, she helps smaller Bay Area businesses thrive. Lisa holds a BA in Business Economics from UC Santa Barbara, with a minor in beachgoing. She lives in Oakland, CA with her family.
Stephanie Katz
Staff Bookkeeper
Stephanie is a QuickBooks Online wiz with 16 years as a staff accountant for Bay Area small businesses in the fields of tech, advertising and real estate. When it comes to small business accounting, Stephanie is an industry agnostic: She just loves clean books. A native of Texas, Stephanie lives in Concord, CA with her family.
Jyothi Lokesh
Senior Accountant
A certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor with 17 years’ experience working for financial clients including Accenture and Tesco, Jyothi takes the drudgery of monthly accounting off your plate. For Jyothi, it’s not even drudgery. When she’s not taking care of your numbers, Jyothi enjoys traveling, reading fiction and spending time with her husband and son. Jyothi holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Karnataka Open State University. She lives in Mountainhouse, CA.
Meghan Diggins
Senior Bookkeeper
Meg believes that clear and accurate financial documentation gives business owners the freedom to plan smarter and dream bigger. She works directly with clients to set up their books, conduct monthly reconciliations and QuickBooks cleanup, manage accounts payable and create financial reports that give business owners the confidence to grow. Meg lives with her family in Gualala, CA, where she enjoys living in the woods, heading to the beach and hanging out with organic farmer friends. She is a Certified ProAdvisor in QuickBooks Online and holds a BS in Computer Information Systems.
Marketa Martin
Accounting Supervisor
Marketa is an accountant, a certified bookkeeper and a Certified QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor. She works directly with a small number of New Insight Accounting clients, and reviews all accounts to make sure that the financial information we provide to our clients is reliable, accurate and timely. Previously, Marketa worked in-house at two large firms, and then in cloud-based accounting. She notes: “You can understand the health of a company by looking at their financials. What I like particularly about working for small business owners is being able to make such a big impact on their lives.” Marketa loves traveling with her family, cooking healthy meals, dance, kickboxing —and, at the end of a long day, yoga. She holds a BA, summa cum laude, in Accounting from University of Central Florida.
Joy Simmonds
Accountant
Joy comes to New Insight Accounting with a wealth of experience as an accountant and decades of friendship with Lisa. The two met as first years in public accounting at Ernst & Young, where Joy started out in tax and auditing. Joy went on to serve for five years as the controller for AMB Realty Investments, a mergers and acquisitions firm in San Francisco; from there, she spent 10 years as the accountant at a private law firm in San Francisco, and then at a private CPA firm in Marin County, where she provided accounting services for high-profile musicians, including the Doobie Brothers. As a senior staff accountant at NIA, Joy takes a holistic approach to her clients’ companies. She enjoys building a relationship with her clients, managing their books so they can focus on their business. Joy loves being a part of her clients’ success. When she’s not tapping the calculator keys, Joy spends her time tap dancing for her local community theater, where she keeps a toe in the dance world after 22 years as a Jazzercise instructor. A mother of triplet boys, Joy now lives in Florida; she enjoys golf, knitting, cooking vegan meals and growing orchids. She is a certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor.
Emily Wypiszynski
Client Services and Office Manager
Emily brings five years of experience in accounting assistance and administration to her role at New Insight, where she helps Lisa and the staff stay organized. She’s a stickler for accuracy! In addition to making life easier for the team, Emily keeps New Insight’s operations humming along smoothly, from client communications to invoicing to integrating client data into the firm’s applications. Efficiency is her superpower. Emily enjoys gardening and running; she’s newly into half-marathons in Wisconsin, where she lives with her husband and children.
